Maritime Museum of BC
Long
before British Columbia's west coast was "discovered" by the Spanish and English, it
was traveled by First Nations and even possibly the Chinese before them.
The Maritime Museum of British Columbia tells you all about these early sea travelers as well
as about all of the maritime traffic, and sinking, along Vancouver Island's seashore. See the
navigational instruments that made the exploration and survey of the west coast possible, used
by the great map and chart makers Captain James Cook and Captain George Vancouver.
Find answers to:
- why this island does not belong to the US or Russia,
- why the southern tip of Vancouver Island dips below the famour 49th parallel
- why there are so many Spanish names on streets in Victora, and much more!
